Valerie is Chair of Swan Housing Group and expert at juggling challenging roles - the tougher, the better! Whether it was becoming the only female Director in European Asset Management at international real estate consultants Jones Lang LaSalle in her earlier career; becoming one of the most qualified women in property in the world, (she holds Chartered status as an Architect, a Town Planner, a Development Surveyor and an Environmentalist); or whether championing the education of girls and women from disadvantaged immigrant communities through Girlguiding UK. Valerie was awarded an OBE in 2001 and is happiest when breaking new ground! Valerie chairs a construction company for Swan NU Living, which also has its own factory in Basildon for MMC, and in 2015 her successful career was recognised with a Lifetime Achievement Award in the prestigious, National Women in Construction awards. In 2016, the Confederation of British Industry recognised her as the ‘First Woman’ in the Built Environment Sector.
Speaking on day one of Explore Offsite Housing, Valerie will be discussing how Swan Housing is working with NU Living - a design-led, innovative developer with an ethical stance, committed to putting customers first with homes that reflect 21st Century expectations and lifestyles. She will be using Watts Grove case study. Watts Grove replaces an electrical substation building, built using offsite technology these apartments are now within a car free development.
